One thing I observed during our second year was that Preceptors could make or break clinical rotations. And I’m not talking about the obvious – though they do hold a slice of your future in their hand. I’m talking about the ability to make or break what we become passionate about. I saw fields of interest become less interesting, and fields of disinterest become more interesting, all at the hands of Preceptors.
My advice – recognize the role that colleagues play in job satisfaction / quality of life – and when we have an opportunity to choose, choose wisely.
